It's time for a change in New Hanover County.
For too long, big government politicians have presided over a cycle of irresponsible spending, leading to increasing tax burdens for citizens. The career politicians spend your tax dollars without concern for how hard you work to earn a living. They tax your property, businesses, vehicles, water, sewer, stormwater...They even tax my dog, Boomer, each year.
Boomer and an increasing number of County residents know that Brian Berger is the only "true conservative" running for New Hanover County Commissioner. He's the only candidate in New Hanover County who opposes wasteful spending, secret meetings and excessive pollution of our environment. Berger understands the value of good public education and sound infrastructure planning for future growth.
Today, New Hanover County ranks as one of the few counties in North Carolina to raise taxes at a time when citizens are struggling with rising fuel prices, the housing market downturn and creeping inflation. Near total control of local government by career politicians devoted to the same few special interest groups has contributed to wasteful corporate subsidies, disregard for the environment and the role of the environment in the region's economy, and hostile opposition to public involvement in the future of our community.
We need a leader who has the courage to take principled stands on issues like forced annexation and illegal immigration and reasonable environmental protections. And Berger is also the only candidate with a plan to help small businesses and create real jobs.
We can't change government in New Hanover County, North Carolina, or Washington D.C., if we keep voting for the same career politicians with the same old ideas. It's our responsibility to demand accountability from our elected officials. It's up to us as citizens to look beyond the labels "Democrat" and "Republican" and realize, in Wilmington, there is no difference.
This November, help steer New Hanover County government in a better direction. I'm a candidate for New Hanover County Commissioner who will actually fight for fiscal responsibility, accountability, and protecting your quality of life.
